Pianist Martin Sasse, born 1968, studied classical piano at Folkwang Hochschule in Essen and jazz piano (final concert summa cum laude) at the University of Music Cologne from 1990 until 1998. From 1988 until 1990 he played in the LandesJugendJazzOrchester NRW (NRW-state youth jazz orchestra) and from 1990 until 1993 in the Bundesjazzorchester (national jazz orchestra), conducted by Peter Herbolzheimer. Martin Sasse won the first prize at Kulturförderpreises of the city of Hamm and the first prize of the Karlsberg Jazzpreis, as well as the 3rd prize at Hennessy Jazz Search 2000.

Martin Sasse is a professional jazz pianist for more than 20 years. He is releasing records to great critical success and has collaborated with numerous artists: Al Foster, New York Voices, Charlie Mariano, Philip Catherine, Jimmy Cobb, Steve Grossman, Hiram Bullock, Roberta Gambarini, Tierney Sutton, Brian Lynch, Gary Campbell, Till Brönner, Tommy Emmanuel, Tony Lakatos, the HR-Big Band and more.

Under his own name, Mr. Sasse released three albums for Nagel-Heyer Records: Here we come Martin Sasse Trio (2000), A groovy affairMartin Sasse Trio feat. Peter Bernstein (2003) and Close EncounterMartin Sasse Trio feat. Vincent Herring (2005).

As a hired sideman he can be heard and seen on albums and DVDs by Silvia Droste, Rolf Römer, Marcus Bartelt/ Ralf Hesse, Willy Ketzer, Tom Gäbel, Nadja Schubert and more. 

Martin Sasse toured on courtesy of German culture foundation Goethe-Institute alongside the Joachim Schönecker Quartett through Egypt and Sudan. He played at countless jazz festivals, in 2006 alone in Dubai, Athens and Rotterdam; in 2007 in Stuttgart, Wolfsburg and Cologne; 2008 in Paris, Malaga, Moers and at the piano festival Ruhr Bochum.

From 1992-1996, Martin Sasse taught at Offene Jazzhausschule Cologne and from 1998-2008 he lectured combo and jazz piano at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. 

Since 2008, Martin Sasse is an assistant professor for Pop Keyboard / Jazz Piano at the Institute For Music And Media at the University of Music Düsseldorf.
