Requirements for the Orchestral Instruments master’s program – Violin major

The following works must be prepared for the Performance master’s program proficiency test:

For prospective Music Promotion majors:
1. A slow and a fast movement from the sonatas and partitas for solo violin by J. S. Bach
2. The 1st movement of a violin concerto by W. A. Mozart
3. The 1st movement of a major Romantic violin concerto of the musician’s choice
4. The 2nd movement from one of the two violin concertos
5. Two orchestra passages: a. either Smetana’s Bartered Bride or Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream and b. an orchestral passage of the musician’s choice

For prospective Chamber Music majors:
1. A slow and a fast movement from the sonatas and partitas for solo violin by J. S. Bach
2. The 1st movement of a violin concerto by W. A. Mozart
3. The 1st movement of a major Romantic violin concerto of the musician’s choice
4. A movement from a chamber piece of the musician’s choice (not a violin/piano duo)

For prospective Music Promotion majors: a short, artistically prepared introduction (of about 5 minutes) to the program of the proficiency test

The examining board reserves the right to make a selection from the pieces.
