Choral Conducting

Choral Conducting students can earn a degree in the Music Promotion program.

The bachelor’s program in Choral Conducting generally takes eight semesters. The key focus of this degree program is not only a weekly conducting class but also hands-on work with choral ensembles. The study program includes lessons in voice, orchestral conducting, sightreading from a full score, accompanying choirs from the piano in rehearsal, musicology and music theory. Coursework in Choral Pedagogy teaches students the fundamental principles of working with children’s and youth choirs. Finally, a wide range of elective courses offers students the opportunity to further develop existing artistic abilities and to become familiar with areas not specifically related to their major. Successful graduates from the bachelor's program can continue with a four-semester master’s program in Choral Conducting.

Detailed information about the sequence and contents of the program can be found in the Choral Conducting (bachelor’s) module overview.

Youth Choir and Oratorio Concert

Students of choral conducting acquire and comprehensively deepen their artistic and expressive capabilities in working with choirs in a very wide range of age groups and ability – from children’s choirs all the way to professional concert choirs. Those enrolled in the academic program benefit not only from the cooperation of the Robert Schuman University with elementary and secondary schools in Düsseldorf but also from working with the chamber choir of the Institute of Church Music. In addition, students take part in the annual oratorio projects in which the Institute of Church Music, the Voice Department and orchestral musicians at RSH collaborate.
