Requirements for the major in Keyboard, Jazz Piano

The artistic-musical proficiency test includes the following contents:

a) solo performance of an improvisation or of a prepared piano work based on prepared notation, ideally a solo transcription (prepared by the player). Alternatively: Chick Corea “Children’s Songs,” Oscar Peterson “Jazz Exercises & Pieces for the Young Pianist” or similar repertoire

b1) performance of a jazz standard, a composition by the candidate or a pop music piece involving a high degree of improvisation (solo over chord progressions or a modal part) in time with an accompanist (rhythm section, band, duo partner) or to a play-along recording

Alternatively: b2) performance of a work or an improvisation utilizing electronic instruments such as keyboards, synthesizers, DAWs (e.g., Ableton Live) with a clearly recognizable proportion of the candidate’s own technical input and playing as well as recognizable sound design by the candidate.

c) Sightreading a simple piano arrangement from a provided score (five-part setting, left-hand voicings, numbers from the "Real Book" or similar)

This instrument can only be chosen in the Music and Media and Audio and Video bachelor’s programs.
