Florian Breuer
Assistant professor of Pictorial Design Camera/Lighting

Florian Breuer was born in 1983. He first became involved in the media landscape through a detour into a master's degree in musicology, modern history, and anthropology at the University of Bonn, which he broke off, however, in favor of formal studies a media designer for image and sound, which he completed in 2008. He participated in various documentary productions for the broadcasters WDR and VOX.

He subsequently studied until 2013 at the Institute of Music and Media of the Robert Schumann School of Music and Media and at the University of Applied Sciences Düsseldorf in the Audio and Video program.

During his studies he worked as a freelance cameraman for documentary and advertising films as well as on stage and artistic projects.

He is co-founder and manager of the music film production company klangmalerei.tv GmbH. He also works there as DoP (Director of Photography) and (Video) Director, and with his team specializes in music-related material. They produce, among other things, multi-cam productions and live streams, music videos, music documentaries, and cross-platform cross-media projects, as well as promotion and advertising clips for broadcasters such as arte/arte concert, labels such as Warner, MDG, ACT or ECM, and productions for and with renowned artists spanning all genres of music, from Paul Kalkbrenner and Michael Wollny to Hirsch Effekt and Lang Lang.

Florian Breuer is also a founding member of the audiovisual artists’ collective Warped Type, which, among other things, collaborates in projection and installations for visual music and interdisciplinary projects between visuals and sound (among others, for stage performances by Hauschka, the Bergische Symphoniker, Brand Bauer and Frick, Grandbrothers, Repercussion, Open Source Festival, and Milano Piano Festival).

His special focus has always been on the interaction between music and visuals as well as coherent basic design within the planes of visuals, sound and meaning.

Since 2018 winter semester 2018, Florian Breuer has been teaching Pictorial Design Camera/Light at the Institute of Music and Media.
