Assistant Professor in Visual Methods
More than ten years of practical experience in design, art and teaching in an international environment. Interest in experimental methods, discipline-independent thinking and the political dimension of aesthetics. Founder of the Black Mountain Workshop (Amsterdam), a temporary camp for critical design and collective teaching.
Design: Currently a freelance designer, previously creative director at Random Studio (Amsterdam), Apple (Cupertino), Bruce Mau Design (Toronto) and Meiré und Meiré (Berlin/Cologne), always in core profile and process roles. Experimental work, mostly in digital forms of communication and experience design (websites, installations, scenography) for clients such as Nike, Apple, MINI, Hermès, Raf Simons, Kenzo and XL Recordings. Design research projects with Het Nieuwe Instituut, Rotterdam. Networks with international fashion, lifestyle, technology and luxury brands as well as creative studios in architecture, strategy, design and production. Regular invitations to be a speaker at professional conferences such as Offf (Barcelona, 2016) and Resonate (Belgrade, 2016).
Art: Art research on post-rave aesthetics and extreme sensory experience, frequently in the form of installations and performances. Appearances at festivals such as Unsound (Cracow, 2015), Atonal (Berlin, 2016) and Club Transmediale (Berlin, 2016); exhibitions/installations in, among others, the Bundeskunsthalle Bonn, the Museum for Contemporary Art Bat Yam (Tel Aviv), the Tschumi Pavillion (Groningen) and the Arne Jacobsen Foyer (Hannover). Many years working with musician/composer Marcus Schmickler.
Teaching: Lectures and workshops at art and design schools such as Cologne’s State Art Conservatory, the Institute for Music and Media Düsseldorf (one-semester leave replacement for Heike Sperling) and institutes in Japan, Sweden, Portugal, Brazil and Romania.
