Guido Gorny
Assistant professor for Tuba and Baritone/ Euphonium

Guido Gorny, born 1964, was a young student (Jungstudent) at the Cologne University of Music from 1981 to 1983. From 1985 to 1988 he studied at the Robert Schumann School of Music and Media, Düsseldorf, and until 1993 tuba, double bass and piano at the University of Music Cologne/Aachen. From 1985 to 1987 Guido Gorny studied a dual course in musicology and history. In 2000 he completed his conductor's training with Prof. Pierre Kuijpers and in 2005 his Church Music Examination. 

From 1992 to 2000 Guido Gorny was a member of the Montanus Quintet and since 1993 he has played as a regular guest in the Ensemble Modern, Frankfurt. From October 1999 to 2000 Guido Gorny was appointed as a tuba player in the Philharmonia Hungarica.

Guido Gorny has been a member of the Brass Quintet Cologne since 2000 and in 2002 he was hired by the Bonn-Beuel Protestant Church. In addition, the ensemble Polka Blech was founded in 2010.

Since 1995 he has also been regularly involved with the radio orchestras of the WDR, SWR, HR and SR. Since 2001 Guido Gorny has played with Cologne Cathedral Music Department in collaboration with the Cathedral Choir School and since July 2002 he has been repeatedly booked as a guest musician by the London Symphony Orchestra. 

Guido Gornys wide range of recordings on CD include among others Morton Feldmann's For Samuel Beckett, Thomas Schmidt-Kowalski's Sinfonie Nr. 3 and Arthur Honegger's König David. He has also collaborated in various productions of the WDR, SWR and SR broadcasting companies, including among others for the Black Föös, Die Höhner and in the Närrische Hitparade competition of the WDR broadcasting company in Cologne.

From 1991 to 1995 Guido Gorny was an assistant professor for brass instruments at Siegen City Music School. Since 1994 he has taught and given workshops for the Posaunenwerk Rheinland [Rhineland trombone division].

Since 2008 he has been an assistant professor for Tuba and Baritone/ Euphonium at the Robert Schumann School of Music and Media, Düsseldorf, and also teaches students of the Institute For Music And Media.
