Thorsten Weigelt grew up near the North Sea, in Husum, Germany. In 2001 he completed his studies as a sound engineer at the former Academy of the Arts Berlin, today the University of the Arts Berlin, with a master’s degree.

Already during his studies he founded Studio P4 at the radio studios. His freelance work there brought him into contact with a wide range of genres and types of audio production. These include classical music, radio plays and film music as well as sound design. In addition, he worked for, among others, Emil-Berliner-Studios/Deutsche Grammophon in digital editing and remastering. These varied influences still have an effect on his work in classical music recording today. Working with surround has always been an integral part of his work, which in recent years has come to include 3D audio. He works for various labels and broadcasters such as Norddeutscher Rundfunk, Bayerischer Rundfunk, and Deutsche Grammophon. In addition, he is a producer with Fundación Musical Simón Bolívar Venezuela, Caracas. He regularly collaborates with renowned orchestras, choirs, soloists and conductors.

In 2013 Thorsten Weigelt was appointed Professor of Classical Music Broadcasting with the Sound Engineering program at the University of the Arts Berlin, after previously having taught that subject as a visiting professor.

He has been a faculty member of the Institute For Music And Media (IMM) of the Robert Schumann School of Music and Media Düsseldorf since 2018.
