Armin Riegel
Assistant Professor of Film Editing

Born in 1957, Armin Riegel initially studied various subjects before completing vocational training at Nuremberg's Schule für Rundfunktechnik (SRT/School of Radio Engineering). He subsequently completed an internship with German TV broadcaster ZDF in Mainz, where he was employed for three years. 

After 1985, he worked in Munich as a freelance cutter and assistant director. He has run his own digital editing studio since 1992. He also worked as an assistant professor of Avid editing at the Nuremberg School of Radio Engineering and taught Editing and Filmmaking at several universities of applied sciences.

Armin Riegel works primarily as a master editor. His editing output to date covers the entire range of work in the film montage genre, from teleplays, commercials, documentation and documentary films, to newsmagazine TV programs and films for industry.

Since 2016 Armin Riegel has been an Assistant Professor of Film Editing at the Institute For Music And Medien of the Robert Schumann School of Music and Media in Düsseldorf. In his seminars he introduces students to the opportunities for and impact of film editing and montage and provides participants with the tools needed for making films which implement their own ideas in freely chosen cinematographic settings.
