Christian Schmitt, born 1966, completed his recording producer studies at Detmold University of Music in 1991. On graduation he worked as a freelancer, primarily for Sony Classical, WDR and Denon.

In doing so he worked as a producer and sound engineer and was also responsible for the post-production of numerous releases.

Since 2002 he has been working as permanent recording producer for WDR. Not only is he responsible for all of the classical music divisions but is also the first recording producer of the WDR Big Band.

Several recordings by Christian Schmitt have been awarded international prizes such as the Diapason d'Or or the German Record Critics' Award.

In 2009 his recording Symphonica with Joe Lovano, the WDR Radio Orchestra and the WDR Big Band was nominated for a Grammy.

The SACD Some Skunk Funk with the WDR Big Band and the Brecker Brothers was awarded two Grammys in 2007. Another Grammy was awarded in 2008 to the production Avant Gerschwin with the WDR Big Band.

Since 2011 Christian Schmitt has been teaching Creative Audio Editing Music at the Institute for Music and Media of the Robert Schumann School of Music an Media in Düsseldorf.
