Requirements for the Orchestral Instruments master’s program – Cello major
Master of Music / Major in Orchestral Instruments
1a. Preselection - Orchestral Instruments
For the preselection, applicants must submit a total of four unedited videos featuring artistic performances. The total duration of all four videos must not exceed 20 minutes. The following requirements apply:
- Two contrasting movements from a solo suite by Johann Sebastian Bach, without repeats. 1 unedited video.
- One work for violoncello and orchestra of the applicant’s choice, performed with piano accompaniment. 1 unedited video.
- One work for solo violoncello or violoncello with piano, of the applicant’s choice. 1 unedited video.
- Orchestral excerpts. 1 unedited video:
- Symphony No. 5 – 2nd movement
- The Bartered Bride
- Swan Lake (solo)
1b. Preselection – Orchestral Practice
For the preselection, applicants must submit a total of three unedited videos featuring artistic performances. The total duration of all three videos must not exceed 20 minutes. The following requirements apply:
- Cello Concerto in D major, 1st movement. 1 unedited video.
- One Romantic cello concerto of the applicant’s choice. 1 unedited video.
- Orchestral excerpts. 1 unedited video:
- Symphony No. 5 – 2nd movement
- Swan Lake (solo)
- A Midsummer Night’s Dream – Scherzo
2. Presence Examination
The presence examination includes the following components:
- Artistic presentation: the same repertoire requirements apply as in the preselection. The same works may be presented as in the preselection.
- A short reflective discussion related to the artistic presentation.
The examination board reserves the right to make a selection from the prepared pieces.
