Requirements for the Orchestral Instruments master’s program – Clarinet major

Master of Music / Major in Orchestral Instruments (RSH) and Orchestra Playing at the Orchesterzentrum NRW

1. Major in Orchestral Instruments

1.1 Preselection
For the pre-selection, a total of 4 uncut videos showing artistic presentations have to be submitted with the application. The total duration of the 4 videos should not exceed 20 minutes. The following requirements apply:

• two works of free choice with piano accompaniment. 2 uncut videos.
• one audition relevant work of free choice with piano accompaniment. 1 uncut video.
• Orchestral parts. 1 uncut video.
  • Beethoven - 6th symphony, 1st movement, 2nd movement and 3rd movement.
  • Mendelssohn-Bartholdy - A Midsummer Night's Dream

1.1 Presence Examination
The presence examination includes the following parts:

• Artistic presentation: the same repertoire requirements apply as in the preselection. The same works may be presented as in the preselection.
• A short reflective talk related to the artistic presentation.

The examination board reserves the right to make a selection from the prepared pieces.

2. Orchestra Playing at the Orchesterzentrum NRW

2.1 Preselection
For the pre-selection, a total of 3 uncut videos showing artistic presentations have to be submitted with the application. The total duration of the 3 videos should not exceed 20 minutes. The following requirements apply:

• W.A. Mozart, Concerto in A major, KV 622 with piano accompaniment. 1 uncut video.
• one audition-relevant work of free choice and with piano accompaniment. 1 uncut video.
• Orchestral passages. 1 uncut video.

The orchestra positions are deposited on the website of the Orchesterzentrum NRW. Application - Orchesterzentrum | NRW

2.2 Presence Examination
The presence examination includes the following parts:

• Artistic presentation: the same repertoire requirements apply as in the preselection. The same works may be presented as in the preselection.
• A short reflective talk related to the artistic presentation.
