Requirements for the Orchestral Instruments master’s program – Percussion major

Master of Music / Major in Orchestral Instruments


1. Preselection
For the pre-selection, a total of 5 uncut videos showing artistic presentations have to be submitted with the application. The total duration of the 5 videos should not exceed 20 minutes. The following requirements apply:

  • Snare drum. 1 uncut video.
    • "Hard Times" by M. Peters
    • "Kreisleriana" by J. Delecluse.
  • Timpani. 1 uncut video.
    • "Eight Pieces" by E. Carter
    • "Symphonic Studies" by N. Woud
  • Xylophone. 1 uncut video.
    • "Music for one percussion player" by Sommerfeldt
    • "Vingt Etudes pour Xylophone" by J. Delecluse
    • "Modern School for Xylophone...." by M. Goldenberg
  • Marimba-/Vibraphone (4 Mallets). 1 uncut video.
    • From the Cello Suites by J.S. Bach.
    • "Merlin" by A. Thomas, etc.
  • Orchestral pieces. 1 uncut video.
    • Two orchestral passages per instrument from the orchestral repertoire of free choice.


2. Presence Examination
The presence examination includes the following parts:

  • Artistic presentation: the same repertoire requirements apply as in the preselection. The same works may be presented as in the preselection.
  • A short reflective talk related to the artistic presentation.

The examination board reserves the right to make a selection from the prepared pieces.
