Requirements for the Orchestral Instruments master’s program – String Bass major
Master of Music / Major in Orchestral Instruments (RSH) and Orchestra Playing at the Orchesterzentrum NRW
1. Major in Orchestral Instruments
1.1 Preselection
For the pre-selection, a total of 4 uncut videos showing artistic presentations have to be submitted with the application. The total duration of the 4 videos should not exceed 20 minutes. The following requirements apply:
- Exposition and development of a 1st movement of a classical concerto without cadenza, e.g. Dittersdorf, Vanhal, Hoffmeister with piano accompaniment. 1 uncut video.
- Exposition and development of a 1st movement of a romantic concerto without cadenza, e.g., Koussevitzky or Bottesini. 1 uncut video.
- One work of free choice from another third style period. 1 uncut video.
- Orchestral works. 1 uncut video.
- Mozart symphony no. 40, 1st movement.
- Beethoven 5th symphony, 3rd movement
- Verdi Otello
1.1 Presence Examination
The presence examination includes the following parts:
- Artistic presentation: the same repertoire requirements apply as in the preselection. The same works may be presented as in the preselection.
- A short reflective talk related to the artistic presentation.
The examination board reserves the right to make a selection from the prepared pieces.
2. Orchestra Playing at the Orchesterzentrum NRW
2.1 Preselection
For the pre-selection, a total of 3 uncut videos showing artistic presentations have to be submitted with the application. The total duration of the 3 videos should not exceed 20 minutes. The following requirements apply:
- 1st and 2nd movement of a classical concerto, e.g. Dittersdorf, Vanhal, Hoffmeister with piano accompaniment. 1 uncut video.
- 1st movement of a romantic concerto, e.g. Koussevitzky or Bottesini. 1 uncut video.
- Orchestral passages. 1 uncut video.

2.2 Presence Examination
The presence examination includes the following parts:
- Artistic presentation: the same repertoire requirements apply as in the preselection. The same works may be presented as in the preselection.
