Violet

In 2021, IMM student Lukas Lindner composed the soundtrack to the experimental short film Violet, written and directed by Nadine Asfour. The film explores themes of art, identity, and sexuality as it follows a shy young art student named Blue, who’s struggling with feelings for her classmate Violet. In an attempt to process her emotions through painting, Blue is drawn into the canvas itself.

Violet was screened at various festivals in 2022, including FilmPride on TV in the UK, Generation Tochter in Berlin, and the North Film Festival in Stockholm, where it was nominated in the Best LGBTQ Short Film category and won the prize for Best Score in Short Film.

Lukas created the score under the supervision of Andreas Grimm during his time in the Media Composition concentration at the Institute for Music and Media at the Robert Schumann Hochschule Düsseldorf.

The clarinet was played by Luzi Wei.
