Brainfuck

Within the framework of her bachelor’s thesis, IMM student Magdalena Treutwein developed poems, written in executable code (in the Brainfuck programming language).

Brainfuck is an esoteric programming language (esolang). It was developed by Urban Mueller and consists of only eight symbols. Mueller wanted to challenge programmers to write functional code with this minimalist language.

The poems are executable code written in Brainfuck. However, their English notations are used instead of the symbols. Since there are many different terms for each character, poems with an almost narrative character were created.

These works were created as part of Magdalena Treutwein’s bachelor’s thesis in the Music and Text major, which was supervised by Marc Matter and Julian Rohrhuber. They are available online here.
