Mathias Höderath
Assistant professor for Pop Keyboard and Jazz Piano



Mathias Höderath, born in 1973, initially took classical and jazz-specific piano lessons with Siegfried Koepf in Cologne and later went on to study Jazz Piano under the tuition of John Taylor and Frank Chastenier at the Cologne Academy of Music.

In 1999, the multiple prize winner of the Jugend Jazzt competition played the Montreux Jazz Festival together with Daniela Panteleit & Band and in 2000 won the 3rd Daimler Chrysler Jazz Competition with the same outfit.

Together with the Group BIG GEE, he won the Deutschen Poppreis (German Pop Award) for best band in the category of Funk & Soul in 2005. In spring 2010, the outfit will release their debut album Retrologie under the Sony BMG label.

As a keyboarder and partly as a musical director, he has provided many artists such as Clueso, Juliette Schoppmann, Philippe, Thomas Godoj, Wind, Vanilla Ninja and many more with sounds. He has also played the keyboard for diverse musicals such as Miami Nights or Jekyll & Hyde and also many times for Roncalli Productions. In 2008, he devised a music quiz for the programme Die beste Klasse Deutschlands (KiKa, ARD).

Together with the band Sweetbox, he toured Japan and Korea in 2005 and 2006, where he recorded a live DVD during Christmas 2005. 

Alongside work with his own Mathias Höderath Trio, for which he writes, arranges and which, in 2010, will publish its debut album, some of his current projects include bands such as anna.lucaClub des Belugas QuartettPimps im Park or The Soul Criminals.

Since 2010, Mathias Höderath has been an assistant professor for Pop Keyboard and Jazz Piano at the Institute For Music And Media at of the Robert Schumann School of Music and Media.
