Piano (bachelor’s)

Piano students can earn a degree in the Music Performance program.

The bachelor’s program in Piano generally takes eight semesters. In addition to weekly instruction in the major there are the specializations Voice, New Piano Music, and Chamber Music. The curriculum also includes concert and personal management as well as musicology and music theory. In addition, so-called “qualifying areas of focus” build up basic knowledge and abilities in one of the four areas: Music Pedagogy, Conducting, Music and Media or Musicology. As the last element, a wide range of electives offer students the opportunity to further develop their abilities and study outside their individual specialty.
Detailed information about the sequence and contents of the program can be found in the Piano (bachelor’s) module overview.

Successful graduates from the bachelor’s program can continue with a four-semester master’s program in Piano.

Students who study piano in Düsseldorf benefit from numerous possibilities for performing in public both inside and outside the university. In addition, the university organizes regular piano music and chamber music events, and a “New Music Marathon Night.” Finally, students can take part in the Sieghardt Rometsch Competition, which takes place every year in the solo and chamber music categories.
