Requirements for the Orchestral Instruments master’s program – Bassoon major
The following works must be prepared for the Performance master’s program proficiency test:
In general:
1. Two movements of the candidate’s choice from a bassoon concerto by A. Vivaldi
2. A fast movement from a bassoon concerto by: W. A. Mozart, C. M. v. Weber, J. N. Hummel or G. Rossini
3. A piece for bassoon solo: Yun, Monologue, O. Berg, Vertigo, E. Denissow, Sonata, H. Holliger, Klaus-Ur or K. H. Stockhausen, In Freundschaft
As an alternative to the works proposed here, it is also possible to choose three other works from different style periods at a comparable level of difficulty.
For prospective Orchestra majors: two orchestral passages: a) I. Stravinsky, The Firebird (Berceuse) b) L. v. Beethoven, 4th Symphony (4th mvt) c) D. Shostakovich, 9th Symphony (4th mvt)
For prospective Chamber Music majors: a) C. Nielsen, Wind Quintet op. 43 (Variation VII) b) L. v. Beethoven Sextet op. 71 (2nd movement beginning at Adagio)
For prospective Music Promotion majors: a short, artistically prepared introduction (of about 5 minutes) to the program of the proficiency test
The examining boards reserve the right to make a selection from the pieces.
