Requirements for the Orchestral Instruments master’s program – Harp major

Master of Music / Major in Orchestral Instruments (RSH) and Orchestra Playing at the Orchesterzentrum NRW


1. Major in Orchestral Instruments

1.1 Preselection
For the pre-selection, a total of 5 uncut videos showing artistic presentations have to be submitted with the application. The total duration of the 5 videos should not exceed 20 minutes. The following requirements apply:

  • three works of free choice with piano accompaniment. 3 uncut videos
  • one work or movement from the Baroque period with piano accompaniment max. 7 minutes. 1 uncut video.
  • Orchestral pieces. 1 uncut video.
    • Ravel - Tzigane cadenza
    • Wagner - Tannhäuser, 1st and 2nd verse

1.1 Presence Examination
The presence examination includes the following parts:

  • Artistic presentation: the same repertoire requirements apply as in the preselection. The same works may be presented as in the preselection.
  • A short reflective talk related to the artistic presentation.

The examination board reserves the right to make a selection from the prepared pieces.



2. Orchestra Playing at the Orchesterzentrum NRW

2.1 Preselection

For the pre-selection, a total of 3 uncut videos showing artistic presentations have to be submitted with the application. The total duration of the 3 videos should not exceed 20 minutes. The following requirements apply:

  • G. F. Händel - Concerto in B flat major 1st movement or C. Ph. E. Bach - Sonata 2nd movement. 1 uncut video.
  • L. Spohr, Fantasy to end cadenza or G. Faure, Impromptu or P. Hindemith, Sonata 1, movement. 1 uncut video.
  • Orchestral passages. 1 uncut video.

The orchestra positions are deposited on the website of the Orchesterzentrum NRW. Application - Orchesterzentrum | NRW

2.2 Presence Examination
